Baby Talk: How to Talk to Babies
August 13th, 2008
Did you know that the first 50 words take the longest for a child to learn, and once they have learned those words the rest come much faster?
Dr. Robert Titzer Ph.D, a recognized expert and infant researcher, wrote an interesting post about this topic and the importance of speaking to children in “parentese,” which according to Dr. Titzer, “involves an exaggerated pronunciation of words in a ’sing-song’ voice, in which more emphasis is given to each syllable, making it longer and clearer than normal adult speech.” He explains that speaking to babies in this tone of voice helps them to understand the annunciation of basic words.
Dr. Titzer has many other great posts about infant learning on his blog TeachYourBaby.com.
